Jim Falls Whitewater

Here are some details about the run and how to get there.

The dam releases for recreational purposes are provided with the cooperation of Xcel Energy. Everyone involved wants to know how many people are participating and this is tracked by sign-in sheets at the put-in. So make sure you sign the sheet!

Important notes:

The "Old Abe Wayside" is now the formal put-in site. It is on the right side of State Highway 178 about 1/3 mile north of the County Y intersection. The sign-in sheets will be found here.

The take-out site is on the east side of the river (river left) on Xcel Energy property downstream of the County Y Bridge. The take-out has a stairway that's very obvious from the water.

This aerial photograph shows the entire whitewater route including the put-in and take-out sites.

Getting There

Jim Falls is 85 miles from the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. Heading east on I-94 take the Hwy-29 east exit (about 8 miles past Menominee) toward Chippewa Falls. This Google Map shows how to get to the put-in starting from where Hwy-29 crosses the Chippewa River. On the map the put-in is marked as 14981 Wisconsin 178 Trunk but it's really the "Old Abe Wayside".
